$1000 1ST ABA SHOOTOUT RULES
ABA SHOOTOUTS are open to bowlers 18 or older; however, NO members of ANY Professional Bowling Organization will be allowed to participate. ABA Tournament Directors reserve the right to re-rate or refuse any bowler or entry.
ABA Dress Code: NO Tank Tops, “Short” Shorts, or Cut-Offs.
Entering Handicap: 70% of 220; thereafter, a floating handicap system is used (you gain or lose handicap pins based on qualifying and amount of money earned). Maximum entering handicap for Women is 55 pins and for Men is 40 pins.
Qualifying Format: Bowl 3 games across 6 lanes. Total Pins, with handicap, is used to determine bowlers cut into the finals. No carry-over of scores from qualifying to the finals. Order of qualifying -- auto positions, regular h’dcp, then Out-of-Cut positions (high h’dcp woman, senior (50-59), super senior (60+), and then 1* scratch position). *When extra positions are taken because of over 150 entries, there will be a woman & man scratch out-of-cut positions.
Finals: All qualifiers will bowl SHOOTOUT format to determine the winner. All qualifiers (15/16) will bowl one game with the top eight scores advancing to the next match. Those eight bowlers bowl one game with the top four scores advancing to the next match. Those four bowlers bowl one game with the top two scores advancing to the final match. Those two bowlers bowl one game to determine 1st and 2nd place. All scores include handicap. Ties advance to the next game of the shootout except when cutting to the top four or final two, then a one game roll-off will be used. In events where there are 17 to 20 qualifiers, the first game of the shootout will cut the field in half (ex.- 17/18 cuts to top 9, 19/20 cuts to top 10), then the second game will cut to the top 5 and the third game to the final 2. In events with 21 or more qualifiers, the first game will cut to the top 16, then 8-4-2.
Entry Fee: $48 entry fee with a $3 discount for cash -- $45 CASH ENTRY FEE. ($28 prize fund, $1 Special Events Fund and $16 expenses) MC, VISA, & American Express are accepted - NO CHECK
Handicap Gain: Bowlers not qualifying shall receive one additional pin handicap (2 pins IF bowled 3 or more times) into their next ABA tournament. NOTE: The Tournament Director reserves the right to only award one additional pin with 3 or more entries IF it appears the bowler is throwing games away just to gain handicap. Also, any low games may not count toward ABA average.
Handicap Loss: Handicap loss will once again be based on money earned using the following formula: Money Won – Money Spent = Money Earned. No handicap loss for earnings of $45 or less. Revised handicap loss charts will be posted and available at all tournaments.
Maximum of six (6) bowlers per pair, EXCEPT for the last squad of the day - no limit.
Lane Rotation: 5 pairs or less, move 1 pair to the right, 6 pairs or more move 2 pairs to the right, 14 pairs or more move 2 pairs to the right PLUS split the house.
A set of ABA Tournament Rules is available at the desk.
First time bowlers to the ABA must provide proper average verification for the current season and previous two (2) years.
First time bowlers to the ABA CANNOT use the last squad of any tournament as their first entry. Their first entry must be a prior squad.
NO-TAP: Some tournaments may be No-Tap (9 pins on 1st ball counts as a strike). No handicap will be used in this format. The ‘free-strike’ system will be used based on bowlers’ current ABA average. NO HANDICAP GAIN/ LOSS.
SWEEPER: Some tournaments may be a 7-game sweeper. NO HANDICAP GAIN/LOSS.
Bowlers must complete all games, not allowed to withdraw in the middle of a squad.
The Tournament Director’s decisions are FINAL, without appeal.
